Introduction
The inaugural summer Youth Olympics to be held in Singapore from 14-26 August 2010 is a pioneering initiative by the International Olympic Committee(IOC). The Singapore Youth Olympic Games will bring together talented athletes from across the world to take part in a multi-sports, cultural and educational event that will give a whole new dimension to the Olympic ideal.
The sports program will encompass all sports on the program of the 2012 Summer Games with a limited number of disciplines and events. Although the sport of Equestrian will be included on the program the only discipline taking place at the Youth Olympics will be Jumping. Australia is only eligible to select one rider and two reserves to compete in the Jumping events at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympics.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible to compete at the Singapore Youth Olympics riders must be born between the following dates:
1 January 1992 and 31 December 1993.
If a rider falls into the eligible age category and wishes to be considered for selection they will need to obtain a Certifcate of Capability (COC)
To obtain a COC an eligible rider must:
- Compete in the FEI Challenge Category A event, and receive a score of not more than eight penalties in the first round of any of the competitions.
The FEI Challenge Category A event is scheduled to be held at the NSW State Showjumping Championships in Canberra from the 3-5 October 2009. At this stage the FEI Challenge Category A event is the only COC event to be held in Australia recognized by the FEI.
