Equestrian Australia has been awarded a position in Equestrian at the Youth Olympic Games 2014.
Jumping is the only equestrian sport contested at the Youth Olympic Games and the event takes place on borrowed horses.
The selection of the athlete is in accordance with the Youth Olympic Games Selection Policy which you can find below.
The second summer Youth Olympic Games takes place in Nanjing, China from 16 – 28 August 2014.
This multi-sports, cultural and education event, inspires young people around the world to participate in sport, lead active and healthy lifestyles and adopt and live by the Olympic values.
Australia anticipates sending a Team of 90 athletes. With Australia's jumping representive to be announced in the upcoming weeks.

A Virtual Torch Relay gives fans around the world the chance to get involved in the Youth Olympic Games via an interactive app. The app has may features to engage and inspire fans to get active and learn more about the Olympic values, as well as lots of fun games and activities. The app, titled ‘Nanjing 2014 Torch Relay’, can be downloaded free from the Google Play Store and App Store.

Australian Youth Olympic Jumping Team Final Selection Process
The four nominated riders for the Nanjing, China Youth Olympics are about to embark on the final selection stage to be held at Camden next week (Wednesday 21 May – Thursday 22 May).
The following four riders have been nominated;
- Kate Hinschen, QLD
- Jake Hunter, NSW
- Brooke Langbecker, QLD
- Isabella Stone, NSW
The selection process involves a two day camp with riders demonstrating their riding ability on 4 borrowed horses, with a jumping round of 8 – 10 fences to conclude the selection process. The selectors will be focusing on the rider’s ability to adjust to a wide range of horse types whilst focusing on their riding ability, presentation and their ability to compete successfully in 1.2m – 1.3m classes. Of the four riders one will be nominated to represent Australia at the Youth Olympics, along with two non-travelling reserves.
At the 2010 Youth Olympics held in Singapore Tom McDermott was selected to represent Australia and brought home a silver medal. The games begin on the 16 August and finish on the 18 August 2014.
Equestrian Australia congratulates the nominated riders on getting this far in the selection process and wishes them good luck in the final selection phase.

Equestrian Australia is calling for Expressions of Interest for the Chef d'Equipe Role (which is now closed) to attend the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing China which is from the 16-18th August 2014
