The horse and rider combinations are here! The Parklands are set and ready for action!
The 2017 Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event (MMAus3DE) is set to kick off on Thursday 16 November, heralding its 20th year, held in the Adelaide parklands.
This year is set to be bigger than ever with an amazing program of equestrian events from Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 November.
Tomorrow, gates open from 8.00am for a free day of dressage for the general public, with the first competitor stepping on to the Brand SA Main Arena for the Horseland CCI2* from 9am.
Dr Felicity-ann Lewis, Aus3DE Chair, said that everything was set for an amazing competition and the Adelaide parklands were looking better than ever, providing a beautiful backdrop for this unique city equestrian event.
“We have a very strong field of 21 entries in the Mitsubishi Motors CCI4*, Olympic standard competition, with Australia’s best horses vying for top honours, along with a strong contingent of six horse’s from New Zealand,” said Dr Lewis.
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said equestrian enthusiasts from all over the world would be focused on Adelaide this weekend.
“The State Government has been a proud supporter of the Aus3DE since its inception and for 20 years the organisers have done an awesome job bringing this international event to the heart of the city.
The Aus3DE is the only four-star competition in the Southern Hemisphere and regularly attracts the best competitors from around the world.
This event has not only put Adelaide on the equestrian map but also makes a significant contribution to our record $6.3 billion visitor economy, with more than 25,000 spectators expected to attend.
Hosting major international events like the Aus3DE is what South Australia does best and I encourage everyone to get down to Victoria Park during the next few days to see the world-class equestrian action.”
The CCI4* horses will ‘trot up’ this afternoon to prove they are fit to compete in the three phases of the Three Day Event, prior to heading on to the Brand SA Main Arena for the dressage competitions on Friday 17 November from 1.10pm.
Overall, the three classes of competition have attracted more than 80 competitors, including Hazel Shannon on her horse Willinga Park Clifford, who has returned to Adelaide to defend her CCI4* title after winning in 2016.
Dr Felicity-ann Lewis, MMAus3DE Chair said that under the stewardship of Event Director, Gillian Rolton and her team, the MMAus3DE is growing from strength to strength and is testament to her passion and vision for this event and sport in Adelaide. The partnership with Mitsubishi Motors will continue to support this event as the Southern Hemisphere’s premier Three-Day-Event.
This year the Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3DE is a qualifying competition for the Australian team for the 2018 World Equestrian Games to be held in North Carolina, USA.
This event is not only for the equine enthusiasts. Some hospitality packages are still available where you can enjoy the excitement of the competition at the highest level, rub shoulders with the riders and enjoy some excellent South Australian food and produce.
General Admission tickets can be bought from the Main Gate on Fullarton Rd during the event.
