Australia fourth at Hartpury CPEDI3*
Australia’s Para-Equestrian Team has finished fourth overnight at the Hartpury (UK) CPEDI3*.
As well as being an important event for Australia’s qualification efforts for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, with three members of the team competing at international level and outside of Australia for the first time, the event has been a valuable learning opportunity.
Australia’s final team score of 388.961 placed them in fourth position overall. The youngest member of the team, Caitlin Radford (Camillo Van Der Ponderosa), placed fifth in both the Grade 4 team test and individual championship, receiving a 63.262 for her team test and 64.167 in the individual championship.
Fellow Grade 4 rider Zoe Veronas (Bonito) was seventh in both outings, receiving a 61.143 in the team’s test and 59.857 in the individual championship.
Grade 3 rider Katie Umback (Arwen) also posted promising results, achieving a score of 65.816 (seventh place) in the team’s test and a 68.0 in the individual championship, which had her placed fifth.
Australia’s final team rider, Anne Skinner (The Dutchman) scored 64.059 for 11th in the Grade 2 team’s test. She finished in the same position in the individual championship scoring 63.657.
Competing as an individual, Emma Booth (Wagner) was 12th in the team’s test, receiving a score of 62.029 and the next day received a 62.429 in the individual championship where she was also 12th.
Later on Friday riders will get a final opportunity to take to the arena when they complete their Freestlye tests.
The Hartpury CPEDI3* is an important event for Australia’s Para-Equestrian team on the Road to Rio. Australia’s two strongest team scores obtained from either the Hartpury CPEDI3* or the Boneo Classic CPEDI3* of 2015 or 2016 will count towards its Rio qualification. At the end of the qualification series Australia needs to be the highest ranked country of the Oceania region to gain team qualification for Rio.
