Beresford to withdraw from WEG contention
Hayley Beresford has announced she is ending her WEG campaign and withdrawing from the WEG final selection event after her mount Jaybee Alabaster (Basti) sustained an acute injury one week prior to the first Australian selection trial in Fritzens.
In Beresford's statement she said ‘my team and I have worked tirelessly over the past 3 weeks and Basti has made very good progress and returned to training in a good way, however, I feel that it is all too soon to compete and ride with full power at top level so I have made the decision to withdraw from contention for the Australian Team’.
‘Equestrian Australia were extremely accommodating within the discretionary consideration capabilities of our selection policy and granted me permission to try to rehabilitate his injury in time to start at the second selection event scheduled in Deauville next weekend’.
‘Basti is my number one priority in making this decision and I will give him all the time that he needs to recover properly and aim to return to the competition arena in Donaueschingen in September’.
‘I would like to extend a special thank you to Dr Karl Grieshaber who has really worked above and beyond, to my fans and sponsors who have been unwavering in their support for us, and most importantly to my friend and co-owner in Basti, Bev Edwards, who is not only great as a partner but understands horses and horse sport’ concluded Beresford.
