Clean sweep for Australia in the Oceania Championships

Australia's senior jumping team won its second test event between New Zealand at today's Royal Melbourne Show.
After a day of constant and heavy rain which caused Thursday’s entire equestrian program at the Show to be abandoned, both teams made the decision to limit the competition to one round rather than two, so to preserve their horses for Sunday’s World Cup qualifier.
It handed the Australians a decisive victory giving the senior team a clean sweep in the two round series.
Riders will now turn their attention to the Melbourne Royal CSI1*-W which is also the final qualifier for the Be the Influence Equestrian Grand Final.

Following the senior event it was time for the Young Riders to take to the arena and once again the Australian team were too good for their Kiwi counterparts defeating them nine penalties to four. Unlike the senior teams, the young rider event went the full two rounds.
New Zealand Chef d’Equipe John Cottle said:
“The young rider class was a good event and exciting right until the end and was closely fought. We had a couple of new recruits to team with 16 year old Rebekah Van Tiel and Olivia Robertson. Their performances were great.
“Travelling together as a team with the senior riders with the likes of experienced international Samantha McIntosh, who is a great role model, has been very positive.
“We have made a lot of friends while here in Australia and we will be waiting for the Aussies to return to NZ next year for another battle.”
