FEI Veterinary Epidemiology Working Group and EHV-1 Outbreak Update
The FEI has been working with world-leading epidemiologists since the early stages of the EHV-1 outbreak in mainland Europe. This group of EHV experts, which has provided science-based recommendations to the FEI throughout each phase of this outbreak, has now been formalised as the FEI Veterinary Epidemiology Working Group.
The Group is composed of leading EHV experts Professor Ann Cullinan (IRL), Dr Richard Newton (GBR) and Dr Gittan Gröndahl (SWE), the FEI Veterinary Director Dr Göran Akerström and FEI Senior Veterinary Advisor Dr Caterina Termine, supported by Dr Jenny Hall, Chair of the FEI Veterinary Committee.
The key areas that the Group is working on are:
- assisting the FEI Veterinary Department and Veterinary Committee in evaluating information associated with the EHV-1 outbreak;
- providing advice for the duration of the current outbreak;
- advising on return to play protocols;
- encouraging reporting of infectious disease cases in all National Federations;
- identifying any gaps in knowledge where research is required
You will find their first Report published here. As advised on 12 March 2021, reports and recommendations from this Group will be published on this page on a weekly basis.
