Learn more about the Jumping shortlist

The combinations have been selected as per the WEG selection policy for Jumping and will go head to head at two events - Mons Ghlin CSI4* (BEL) from 3-6 July and Spangenburg CSI3* (GER) from 10-13 July, in a bid to secure one of the two team positions available through automatic nomination. 

Following the two round nomination series, the top two ranked combinations according to criteria (outlined in section 6.2.2 of the selection policy) will earn automatic nomination to Australia’s Jumping team for the 2014 FEI World Equestrian Games. Selectors will choose a further two combinations to make up the team of five.     

Australian Jumping Team Captain Edwina Tops-Alexander has been selected to the team through early nomination.

This combination represented Australia at the London 2012 Olympic Games making it all the way to the individual final where they placed 35^th overall. Hargreaves secured her first Olympic Games berth as the top performing Australian combination at the end of the the two nomination events leading into London. Hargreaves and Vedor represented Australia at the 2013 FEI Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Final in Barcelona.

Graham and her 13 year old grey stallion, Bella Baloubet were the reserve combination for the Australian jumping team at the 2012 Olympic Games. In 2013 the combination won the Drachten (NED) CSI3* which was the first major Grand Prix victory for Graham since she relocated to Europe in 2009.

Along with Hargreaves, Paterson-Robinson was the second rider to secure automatic nomination to Australia’s Jumping team for the 2012 London Olympic Games where with Lanosso he finished in equal 41^st position. Paterson-Robinson clinched the spot after winning the CSI4* Bourg-en-Bresse (FRA). The 36 year old also represented Australia at the 2010 World Equestrian Games where the team finished 7^th overall.

Kermond is the current Australian Show Jumping Champion and was recently awarded the Ariat Domestic Athlete of the Year award at the Equestrian Australia Sport Awards. He was a convincing winner of the 2013 Australian League World Cup series, claiming victory before the final round had been staged.  As a result, Kermond earned the right to represent Australia at the Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Final. The soon to be 29 year old farrier first represented Australia at the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games.

27 year old Goodwin hails from Warwick, Queensland. He travelled to Europe following the end of the 2013 Australian FEI World Cup Jumping season, in which he finished fifth overall, to commence his stake on a WEG team position. In his first outing representing Australia at the Odense Nations Cup he finished on a total of 12 penalties and Australia placed sixth overall.

This combination dominated the Australian Show Jumping circuit in 2012 with Rowland winning the Australian FEI World Cup series and the WA bred Bickley Brook Bella earning the Golden Grand award (which is given to the series’ best performed horse). In 2013 the pair travelled to Europe to commence their campaign for WEG team selection, winning the La Boissiere CSI3* Grand Prix in May of that year. Recently the pair represented Australia at the Linz Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup event producing two strong rounds which helped Australia to a third place result.

This combination was a member of the 2013 and 2014 Australian teams that achieved podium finishes at the Linz Nations Cup events. In 2014 the pair produced two clear jumping rounds and finished with just one time penalty to help the team to third position. In 2013 the pair had four jumping penalties in the second round which aided the team in finishing second. Passy and Yirrkala Cortina also represented Australia at the 2013 Nations Cup Final in Barcelona.

Thaisa Erwin and Matilda

Erwin and her husband Matthias Hollberg have been based in the US since 2006. Erwin and her 12 year old Belgian Warmblood Matilda have been partners since 2011.Erwin’s career highlights include 3rd highest point accumulation in World Cups in the Asia/Pacific League and being short listed for the 2000 Olympic Games . The former New England based rider excelled as a junior in the equitation and dressage rings. Erwin also holds two university degrees in environmental engineering and natural resource management.
