Sam Buchanan and Diamond B Vixen win the Greater Western Sydney Grand Prix

Sam Buchanan and Diamond B Vixen Jumping

Buchanan wins his first ever Grand Prix in the opening World Cup Series for 2014 at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre on the weekend

The first Be The Influence Grand Final Jumping qualifier for 2014 welcomed a new face, Sam Buchanan. The 18 year old farrier from Windsor was not alone when he competed in the class with a cast on his arm, as many other competitors had sustained injuries in the weeks prior. Buchanan was the only competitor to have only one rail down throughout the two rounds. A humble Buchanan thanked his Mum in his victory speech “my biggest thank you is to my Mum. She has tried her hardest to get here, and she does everything for this horse.”

In second place was Victorian Tim Clarke on Caltango who had an unfortunate two rails in the first round, but earned their place by being clear and fast in the second round. In third place, by a millisecond was Matt Afford and Kaluna Thunderstruck who were one of two combinations to go clear in the first round, but had an unfortunate two rails in the final round.

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks for Australian Showjumpers with The Sydney Royal Easter Show the Australian Amateur Show jumping Championships and the first Be The Influence Equestrian Grand Final qualifier all following so closely. Hopefully our Australian jumpers will have the chance to recover and repair before the next Grand Prix World Cup Qualifier held in Gatton on the 3rd August.
