Southern Cross CVI wrap

A highly successful edition of the Southern Cross CVI was staged at the weekend in the indoor arena of K Ranch at Mount Hunter, NSW.

Offering an excellent surface & great atmosphere horses settled in well to the spacious and relatively new arena.

Visiting international judges commended the event including Netherlands-based 4* Judge Rob de Bruin.

“The venue was of equal standard to many of the CVI’s in Europe,” de Bruin said.

The Southern Cross CVI Organising Committee was extremely pleased with the outcome of the event and thankful of the dedication of the many volunteers and officials who ensured a positive experience for all competing vaulters.

The Kohnke’s Own CVI3* was hotly contested with Australian Stephanie Dore leading the event until the final round of the Technical Test where a set of five very difficult moves were performed in freestyle.  Dianne Ter Meulen from the Netherlands finished in front on 6.787 with Steph Dore just behind on 6.780 and in third place Sarah Grayson on 6.510.  All three vaulters now have qualifying scores for the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon.

Competing in the Camden Valley Inn CVI2* Junior events, which are Australia’s qualifiers for the World Championships for Juniors, were Jean Betts who finished with a score of 6.574, Alex Playfoot 6.506 and Kieran Halliday 6.509.  They will now be hoping for selection to compete at the Championships in Austria this August.

Best Horse of the CVI was awarded to Quickmagic who consistently had the highest score of the entire CVI.  The horse score makes up 25% of the vaulters final score and Quickmagic and his lungers Gail Beattie and Wendy Singlehurst performed outstandingly right throughout the weekend.
