Tapner takes hop honours at Tattersalls CCI3*
Paul Tapner won the Tattersalls (Ireland) CCI3* over the weekend with a strong performance which saw the two-time World Equestrian Games representative finish on his dressage score.
Partnering with the horse Prince Mayo, Tapner climbed through the rankings as the weekend progressed. He was third after the dressage phase in which he received a score of 44.80 and moved into second position after a clear and precise cross country round.
When the top ranked rider Padraig McCarthy did not present to the final horse inspection prior to the show jumping, Tapner moved into the lead. His clear show jumping round solidified his position on top of the leader board and awarded the Rio hopeful with a decisive victory which saw him finish more than 16 penalties ahead of the second ranked rider.
Fellow Aussie Andrew Hoy finished in fourth position riding The Blue Frontier while Sam Griffiths and his horse On the Brash were 10th overall. Early leader Sammi Birch and Hunter Valley II had a fall on cross country and were eliminated.
