Vale Terry Snow AM

Equestrian Australia was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Terry Snow AM, aged 80.

Terry was a remarkable Australian, a beloved family man, philanthropist, businessman and Equestrian - having taken up horse riding at the age of 65.

Terry was passionate about the development of Equestrian sport in Australia and was behind a number of initiatives including the Willinga Park Elite Athlete program. EA Board Chair, Christie Freeman, said "His passion and love for horses, and for developing the standard of the sport in Australia has left a huge legacy."

Equestrian sport, particularly Eventing, benefited from Terry's generosity and belief that our sport should have best practice safety measures in place. Terry provided funding to ensure that Australian safety initiatives in Equestrian sport were recognised overseas and helped to create the  ‘Making Eventing Safer’ fund. The fund aided in the roll out of frangible devices for cross country jumps to prevent rotational horse falls.

At a stage of life when many consider retiring, Terry bought land at Bawley Point on the South Coast of New South Wales and set about creating Willinga Park and it’s remarkable Equestrian facilities to help further the sport. The venue has gone on to host a large number of elite level Equestrian events, including Dressage By The Sea and Jumping @ Willinga.

Our condolences to the Snow family – Terry’s wife Ginette, children Scarlett Gaffey, Tom Snow, Georgina Byron and Stephen Byron, brothers Michael and George, and his grandchildren.
