Wood leads Jersey Fresh CCI3* from start to finish
US based Australian Eventing rider Ryan Wood won the Jersey Fresh CCI3* in New Jersey (USA) after leading the three-day competition from start to finish.
Riding Powell, Wood began the event on a strong note, earning a score of 43.60 in the dressage phase which provided him with a tidy lead going into Cross Country. Wood maintained his lead in the Cross Country with a clean round which incurred just 2.40 time penalties.
"He was awesome," said Wood of Powell on his first CCI3* cross country course. "He saved me in a couple spots around the course. He's a big horse and he's got a massive stride. He was quite good on his minutes," he said.
In the final Show Jumping phase, Wood produced a clear round to finish on a total of 46.00. It was the closest of margins between first and second with fellow Australian Boyd Martin, who now rides for the US, finishing in second place with 46.30 penalties.
Wood is based in Pennsylvania with Olympic gold medallist Phillip Dutton.
There was a sombre feeling amongst competitors on the final day of competition following the fatal accident involving Phillippa Humphreys on Cross Country day. Equestrian Australia offers its sincerest condolences to Phillippa's family and friends following this tragic accident.
