Young Rider Series swings into Queensland

The Young Rider series swung into Taroom, Queensland as part of the prestigious Queensland State Show Jumping Championships. One of the country’s leading course builders presented riders with an appropriately challenging track. Graham Watts has been putting the heat on aspiring young riders and helping them lift their standards for some time and this show was no different. Tegan Chester reports that the testing combination through jumps 11 and 12 was the undoing of many rounds that had been clear to that point. The good conditions and a quality track coupled with friendly rivalry between riders produced a great competition.

The veteran horse among the field, Riverside Freedom drew on his experience as Brooke Langbecker piloted him to a clear round and an event win. Langbecker carried over her form from Elysian Fields where she enjoyed a successful competition in the lead up to the State Championships. The only disappointment was that this was not the horse Langbecker nominated for the Young Rider series.

The leading nominated horse was Finally ridden by Jasmin Davidson, the pair was one of four combinations to finish with four jumping penalties but their time of 76.30 was the fastest of this group and assisted in securing second position overall.

Victorian rider Tegan Chester finished third overall and was second among the nominated horses. She returns to her home state with valuable points up her sleeve.

After two rounds Davidison is equal first in the overall standings of the Young Rider Series which now moves to Gympie Show this weekend. Good luck to all riders!
