Generation Next

The High Performance Squad structures will be announced in 2015.

If you are a jumping rider between the age of 18-30yrs there is an exciting opportunity to be part of Generation Next.

Targeted Talent Initiative

The High Performance Jumping Program Generation Next is a high performance pathway program targeting talented athletes and has been established to:

  • Be the early talent identification element of Equestrian Australia’s High Performance Program for Jumping as part of the AIS Winning Edge Strategy
  • Encourage targeted athletes to achieve their potential on the pathway to represent Australia (Bromont, Canada – WEG 2018 and/or Tokyo, Japan 2020 and beyond)
  • Encourage the best Generation Next athletes to be part of the squad and participate in development activities
  • Create meaningful contacts and opportunities internationally to assist in bridging the gap between domestic and international competitions in pursuit of further developing athletes for higher level performances
  • Encourage the athletes’ personal coaches to work in conjunction with the program to further plan and implement short-long term strategies to develop the skills for higher-level international performances.

Targeted group athletes are identified and recruited into the squad and will be led by the National Performance Director for Jumping who will provide a variety of services focused on developing riders to the level of senior international athlete who can achieve world class performances in the future.

The program will provide support and development planning for specifically targeted Australian jumping athletes in the 18 – 30 years age group to bridge the gap between domestic and international training and competition landscapes. The program is also in place to support targeted athletes based within international environments conducive to high performance outcomes.

It is acknowledged that athletes obtain support and development opportunities from a range of people and groups. The program will require self-funding for the majority of development initiatives.

Whilst ultimately an athlete’s development is primarily the athlete’s responsibility, the degree to which the athlete drives the process will depend on their capability and willingness to take on that ownership.

A major objective of personnel who are supporting the athlete’s development is to assist the athlete to have the capability to be self-reliant and confident to achieve success across their sporting endeavours and their life after sport. The ambition is for the athletes to take on the responsibility to manage their own development for future championship campaigns.

The program is an athlete-centred, service-supported model. The structure to support athlete development is an individual case management model involving a collaborative approach within a multi-disciplinary team.  Applications will be considered in consultation with the Generation Next Advisory Panel (refer to the  Gen Next Selection Criteria.pdf for more information).
