Vicki and Congo Z win the Sydney World Cup #SydHT
Olympian Vicki Roycroft won the Greater Sydney Grand Prix defeating an accomplished field of Australian riders who gathered at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre for second round of the 2015/16 Australian League of the FEI World Cup Jumping Series. Of the 19 combinations which entered the qualifier, five jumped clear in the first round and 12 progressed to the second.
Roycroft, who was the best of the field in the first round was last to go in the second and she proved that her experience and Congo Z's talent are the right combination. They finished with two clear rounds and a second round time of 58.35. For 62 year old Roycfroft it’s been a long time in-between World Cup victories.“The last World Cup I won was on Infatuation and he has been dead for a few years. I’ve very grateful to this little horse, he’s just a superstar“.
Australian Show Jumping Champion David Cameron, riding RR Dyranta, picked up four jumping penalties in the first round but put the pressure on the leaders when he produced a fast and clear second round with an impressive time of 51.54. "When you have one down in the first round you don’t really have much choice,” explained Cameron. “It’s not the first time that Vicki’s beat me and it certainly won’t be the last,” he said.
After four jumping penalties in the first round, James Arkins on his warmblood gelding Da Vinci's Pride, completed a very good clear round in the second with a time of 53.82, which placed him third overall. The young prodigy Tom McDermott did the opposite, with a clear first round on his grey son of Daley K, SL Limerick, and then added 4 points in the second round (his time was 54.65). He finished fourth overall. Jess Brown, with a clear first round in 73.40 on her delightful Casco unfortunately had a rail down in the second and she finished fifth overall.
