David Cameron pulls out of Olympic campaign
Two time Australian Showjumping champion, David Cameron has informed Equestrian Australia that he has withdrawn from Olympic selection.
David’s mount, RR Dyranta sustained a small injury when competing at the 3 star show at Lanaken, Belgium in April. While the injury was not severe, it became clear that Dy would not meet a level of fitness required to compete at the highest level of the sport.
“It’s pretty disappointing," said David. "An enormous amount of work has gone into this campaign and I had very high hopes for Dy. She is an extraordinary mare and based on her performances in Australia during the past two years, I genuinely believed we were real contenders for Olympic selection," he said.
“I would like to thank everyone who has the supported this campaign: my friends and family who have supported my fiancé Tallara while I've been away, she has had a lot on her plate; Dy’s owners, the Martin family who helped give us the opportunity, they have always been supportive during the good times and the difficult times that are inevitable in this sport; my groom, Izzy Mirani who has been so committed to coming over and looking after Dy; of course a big thank you to all of our sponsors who have been a big part of the journey; thank you also to Equestrian Australia's High performance team for their support; and of course, a massive thanks goes to our good friends Jamie Kermond and Jamie Winning for making this trip a lot easier and a lot less stressful than if could have been.
This has been a great opportunity and I’ve gained invaluable European experience at some fantastic shows. I wish the Australian team success in Rio and look forward to hopefully joining them in four years,” he said.
