Equestrian Australia Dual Crown Series

The Equestrian Australia Dual Crown is a new National Series in Eventing and Jumping.

It offers athletes the opportunity to collect points at officially sanctioned events with $20,000 of prize money and incentives on offer to those riders who top their respective discipline’s leader board at the end of the series.

The concept will also allow some of Australia’s leading equine events, to take their offerings to the next level and it’s hoped that through the Equestrian Australia Dual Crown, equestrian sport can be taken to new audiences.

In its inaugural year, Equestrian Australia Dual Crown champions will be determined by using results from :

Equestrian Australia Dual Crown Q&A

What is the Dual Crown ?

It is a new National Series in the disciplines of Jumping and Eventing that will offer big thrills, big suspense and big prize money.

What are the sanctioned events ?

The Dual Crown Eventing champion will be determined by using results from the Australian International Three Day Event in Adelaide and the Melbourne International Three Day Event.

The Dual Crown Jumping champion will be determined by using results from the Australian Senior Championship (which is run over 2 classes this year) and the Adelaide 3 Day World Cup Jumping class.

What about Sydney International Horse Trials ?

Originally Sydney International Horse Trials and the associated World Cup Jumping was going to be a part of this initiative but due the circumstances around Sydney this year and the cancellation of the World Cup jumping we have commenced the series with the Dual Crown in 2016. We hope to welcome the SIHT as part of an expanded event in 2017 in both Jumping and Eventing.

Are there two classes for Eventing ?

No. Points are being given for both the CIC3* at Melbourne and Adelaide and the CCI3* and CCI4* at Melbourne and Adelaide so to maximise the number of combinations able to participate.

Is there a crown for both CIC and CCI ?

No. Both the CIC and CCI at both events gain points for the same Eventing leaderboard.

Is the leaderboard about combination horse/rider ?

No. It is a rider's series based on individual results, not based on a rider/horse combination.

Is one worth more than the other ?

Yes. Adelaide as the ‘final’ gains more points.

Where will the finale take place ?

The Australian International Three Day Event in South Australia will host the finale, in November.

What is the points system ?

The series will offer opportunities for both Eventing and Jumping riders to collect points at officially sanctioned events with prize money and incentives on offer to those riders who top their respective discipline’s leader board at the end of the series.

How are points allocated ?

Points are allocated based on one riders highest finish in any particular class. Any second horses ridden and finishing in a lower position will be disregarded and have no points allocated, with lower placed riders being moved up accordingly.

What happens if two Eventing riders finish on equal points in a tie-break ?

In the event of a tie-break, priority will initially be given to those points received the higher class. E.g. 10 points gained in the 4* has a greater weight than 10 points received in a 3* event.  Should points still remain the same after this, it will come down to a clear cross country run and closest to the optimum time at the finish.

What happens if two jumping riders finish on equal points in a tie-break ?

In the event of a tie-break, the winner will be determined by the rider with the highest points and position finished at the Australian Showjumping Championships.

What is the prize money on offer ?

There is a total prize pool of $20,000 that is being contested, with the Dual Crown winner of the Eventing and the Dual Crown winner of the Jumping, both walking away with $10,000 each.

Is it intended to grow the Dual Crown concept ?

EA continually looks at ways to grow and develop the sport. Whilst in its inaugural year, it is certainly our intention to develop this series further.

Where can I buy tickets for the Dual Crown ?
