Behind the Stable Door - Clint Beresford, the boy from Bega
“Behind the Stable Door” is a new series focussed on the back story of riders and their horses that have enjoyed success in major events.
The boy from Bega, Clint Beresford, says it still feels “surreal” to have secured the 2016/17 FEI World Cup Jumping Australian League Series title at the Boneo Classic at the weekend.
Partnering his 9yo black gelding Emmaville Jitterbug, Beresford has dominated the World Cup season and has just returned home to the farm to quietly reflect on the success.

“It’s been an unbelievable year and it’s all still sinking in,” Beresford said.
Despite the heady ride, he has already ruled out making the trip to represent Australia at the FEI World Cup League Series Final in Omaha, Nebraska.
“It’s a big trip and expense and I don’t feel that I am ready to go there just yet,” said Beresford.
Instead, the 24-year-old will focus more immediately on the inaugural Equifest event at Hawkesbury on March 30 and Sydney Royal Easter Show with his horse fondly known as “Jason” around the stables.
It’s no surprise that Beresford has developed such a good rapport with “Jason”. He was first linked with the horse when he was a 4yo under the care of his breeder Grant Hughes in Canberra.
“I used to ride him every day when I worked for Grant and then we ended up being able to buy him a few years later which was great.”
Beresford has fielded plenty of interest in “Jason” from potential buyers but says, firmly, he is not for sale.
“Some offers would be enough to buy a house but I am not selling him. These horses come along once in a lifetime.”
