Olympic team reunion at the 2017 Otto Sport 3-Day Event

One of Australia’s most picturesque and unique equestrian facilities, Wallaby Hill, will play host to the highly anticipated Otto Sport 3-Day Event this weekend.

The event has attracted record entries with some classes over-subscribed and combinations having to go onto waitlists.

“This is only our second year running a CCI and we are overwhelmed by the numbers, literally. With 30 in the CCI3* and waitlists in most of the other classes, we have been incredibly buoyed by the support the riders have given us,” said Event Director Alex Townsend.

Set just outside the magnificent township of Robertson on the south coast of NSW, Wallaby Hill boasts one of the most interesting and challenging cross-country courses in the world.

“Mike Etherington-Smith and Stuart Tinney have built some fantastic tracks, the going is great and we are looking forward to a great event.”

“A huge thank you to our wonderful sponsors OTTO Sport, the riders have been constantly warming up on their fabulous surfaces since they got here. There will be some very well-schooled horses come the dressage on Friday,” said Townsend.

Competition begins tomorrow with the CCI1*, CCI2* and CCI3* dressage.

The bronze medal-winning Rio Olympics Australian Eventing team will be reunited with Stuart Tinney and Shane Rose in the CCI2*, Chris Burton in the CCI1* and Sam Griffiths egging them on from the sidelines.

“It will be great to see the boys back in town. While there will be no medal in the offing, with WEG next year, the stakes will be high as reputations are on the line.”

It will be the first time that Shane Rose has ever competed at a three-day event at Wallaby Hill.

“I am really looking forward to it and seeing what they have done with the facility and it will be good to catch up with the boys again,” said Rose.

Popular Eventing volunteer Rod Winchester who passed away earlier this year will be remembered this weekend with the inaugural Rod Winchester Awards.

“This is our first event without him, but he was the embodiment of the perfect volunteer and his love of the sport lives on through the huge team of volunteers that have given up their time to help us run this event,” said Townsend.

Public entry to the 2017 Otto Sport 3-Day Event is free.
