High Performance Gen Next Coaches Leading for the Future

This week members of the High Performance Gen Next Coaching Program, and High Performance Management, had the opportunity to develop their leadership skills during a workshop focusing on sporting vision, culture, development and success.

As part of the workshop participants were invited to spend the morning at the Waratahs training grounds at UNSW, Daceyville, where head coach, Daryl Gibson, spoke to the group about the importance of athlete driven leadership, team philosophy and creating a healthy culture to bring out the best performance in a team of athletes.

“It was really great meeting with Daryl Gibson from the Waratahs and learning what factors play a large part in their success, which is something we can learn from and take forward” said Megan Jones.

Megan was joined, for the duration of the workshop, by her nearly three-month-old son Finnley, who also seemed keen to learn from some of Australia’s most prominent sporting leaders.

As well as spending time with the Waratahs the group also benefited from sessions with behavioural strategists and sporting team managers.

In addition there was a session conducted by Japanese High Performance Sports Consultant, Dr Shogo Tanaka, specifically dedicated to providing critical cultural and logistical insights to assist the team in preparation for planning towards the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games 2020.

“It was a great opportunity to spend a couple of days diving in to other sports and speaking to their coaches. It was interesting to look at common practices and similarities that can really benefit our sport as a whole moving forward to Tokyo” said Will Enzinger.
