VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTH Ashley Pryde and Kristy Battista
VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH is a regular series on our website. It is a way of highlighting the tireless Equestrian Australia volunteers from across all disciplines, who help keep our sport running smoothly, all over Australia.
This month we say THANK YOU to two people, Ashley Pryde and Kristy Battista, of Equestrian Queensland. Thanks Kristy and Ashley!
Both Kristy Battista and Ashley Pryde serve on the Dressage Queensland Committee and are the driving force behind the DQ Rider Sub Committee. In addition, Ashley is a committee member of Caboolture Dressage Group, whilst Kristy has been heavily involved in increasing sponsorship for the Amateur Owner Rider, DQ Riders Sub Committee and the DQ Awards night.
Ashley and Kristy made innovative changes to the DQ Rider Sub Committee events in 2019. They acquired sponsors, incorporated lower levels at competitions and combined protocol/competition events, which contributed to increased entries.

Feedback on the DQ Rider Sub Committee Facebook site indicated these new initiatives were very successful.
Competitors particularly enjoyed the friendly atmosphere generated at the 2019 competitions, as noted by the Facebook feedback. The success of these events was further evidenced by the 2019 DQ Rider Sub Committee 2 star event, which was an outstanding success with a 50% increase in entries.
Much volunteering efforts are by individuals who have retired, work casually, or have children in the sport and may tend to have more time on their hands, however Ashely is only 25, works fulltime and manages a small agistment business that she runs outside of her fulltime job.
Kristy is busy too, she works four days a week and is a young mother of two small children (who don’t ride).
Kristy Battista
Kristy and Ashley each have two horses that they train and attempt to compete when they can, whilst juggling their time in between their volunteering commitments that allow others to compete and enjoy competitions.
Their volunteering efforts are exemplary.
Thank you Ashley and Kristy for being members of this wonderful army of volunteers that contribute so much to our sport.
