Volunteer Week Profiles - Show Horse
In celebration of Volunteer Week 2021, we have reached out to our discipline chairs, who give up their time as volunteers to fill these roles. We dug under the surface to discover more about these wonderful people who dedicate so much of their time to keeping our sport running.
Show Horse Chair: Kerry Patchett
- Apart from your role as an EA Official and Chair of National Show Horse Committee, which in its self is a lot of volunteering, how else are you involved as a volunteer?
KP: I volunteer at two agricultural societies shows and one State breed show to assist in any positions that they require.
Many agricultural & breed societies are struggling for volunteers and I feel it is a way to give back to a sport that I have had so much enjoyment from.
- As Chair of National Show Horse committee, why would you encourage people to get involved as a volunteer in equestrian sport?
KP: Volunteering is an opportunity to meet with new people, give back to the sport and it keeps you active, as you may no longer be an active rider but still enjoy the outdoors and being involved with the sport.
- What has been one of your best experiences as a volunteer?
KP: Meeting so many people with the same interest from across Australia and having ongoing friendships with some of them.
- Would you like to say anything particular to all the amazing volunteers in our sport?
KP: Thank you! Without volunteers, events simply cannot run. Volunteers are a valued part of all events, often they have a wealth of knowledge to share with the younger volunteers.
