Equestrian Australia welcomes new CEO

After undertaking an extensive process to recruit for the position of CEO for Equestrian Australia (EA), which saw over 110 well qualified and experienced applicants for the role, EA is extremely pleased to announce that Sam Jones, who has been acting CEO since July this year, has been successful as the preferred candidate.

A keen Dressage competitor, Sam brings a lifelong involvement in horses in the UK and NZ as well as a breadth of experience in management and equestrian sports administration and will be responsible for overseeing EA as we improve and strengthen our organisation for the next generation. Throughout her career, Sam has demonstrated an ability to achieve financial sustainability and governance reform, notably during her tenure as Chief Executive of the New Zealand Pony Clubs Association (NZPCA). Under Sam’s leadership, the NZPCA earned the prestigious Sport NZ Governance Mark, through transformation of governance structures, health and safety standards, and financial transparency.

Sam’s passion for equestrian sports, coupled with a strong background in financial management, stakeholder engagement, and organisational strategy, aligns perfectly with the goals and challenges of EA.  In her short tenure at EA, serving as Acting CEO Sam has maintained organisational continuity, and has already led a successful restructure of staffing and enhanced stakeholder relationships. Her previous roles as General Manager of Sport Operations at EA and Community Development Manager at Equestrian Sports New Zealand further reflect her ability to manage complex operations and foster community engagement, including programmes that increased participation in youth and para-equestrian sports.  Sam is also a keen advocate for increased inclusivity within equestrian sports, creating pathways for previously excluded communities.  In addition, Sam has acted as Shadow Chef d'Equipe for the New Zealand Dressage Team at the World Equestrian Games collaborating internationally on behalf of the equestrian community.

Please join us in welcoming Sam to the role.
