WEG Endurance Team Camp 2014

WEG Endurance Team Camp

With less than 60 days till the 2014 World Equestrian Games, Australia's recently selected Endurance team congregated for the first time to attend a workshop at the IRT Melbourne office on Saturday the 21st June, 2014.

The team members had an informative session with Peter Huntington and Mike Tomlinson from KER who gave a presentation on equine nutrition and offered helpful advice for the lead up to competition. Chris Burke Managing Director of IRT gave the team some expert advice on preparing the team horses for international travel and the do’s and don'ts in the lead up for the team flight scheduled for the 13th August.

Both KER and IRT have been long-time supporters of equestrian sport in Australia, particularly of Australia’s international endurance teams which they have supported for over 20 years.

The Endurance Team veterinarian Dr Narelle Cribb also lectured the team members on the support available to all team horses. Over the course of the day many topics where discussed including the European pre competition base, team accommodation, crew, horse feed, farrier, and race plans. Everyone was engaging and supportive of the process with numerous collective team decisions finalised.

WEG endurance participants will be tested by the 160km track through the country side featuring a picturesque loop that runs along the stunningly beautiful Bay of Mont Saint Michel.
