Exell World Champion... Again!

Australia's Boyd Exell has stormed home on the final day of the Driving competition to claim back to back individual world titles at the FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) 2014.

The boy from Bega outclassed an all star field to finish on top of the podium with a score of 125.83 ahead of USA's Chester Weber (128.60) and the Netherlands' Theo Timmerman (133.88).

Consistency was the key to Exell's success ensuring he remained in the mix during each stage of the three-day competition.

"It's a huge relief. The whole weekend we had a good show but not a perfect show.

"The dressage was quite good but not fantastic, we made one big mistake on the marathon. The cones went very well but sometimes I wondered if I was going to go through the cones in the middle," said Exell.

Fellow team mate Gavin Robson, who is at his second WEG had a solid performance on the final day to finish 38th on 207.31.

In the team's event Australia finished in 9th position with the Netherlands taking out the gold.

It was the perfect way to finish the 2014 World Equestrian Games campaign for the Aussies, with fans both in Normandy, back home in Australia and right around the world cheering Boyd on through social media as well as cheers from the stands.
