Performance Director

Equestrian Australia (EA) is the peak body for the administration of Equestrian Sport in Australia. The organisation manages four Olympic / Paralympic sports and four non-Olympic equestrian sports.

Reporting to the CEO, the Performance Director will lead the Australian Equestrian Team to elite success at international benchmark events in alignment with the short and long term goals of the EA Australia’s Winning Edge (AWE) program. This role will take ownership of the High Performance Program including strategy development, planning and implementation with a focus on long term sustainable success.

The major focus of the High Performance Program is the key Olympic disciplines of Eventing, Jumping and Dressage and the Para-Equestrian Program. The High Performance Program also provides some support to the Non-Olympic disciplines.

To be considered for this role you will need to be a dynamic leader with energy and an ability to swiftly build relationships and credibility with international level athletes, coaches and stakeholders. This role oversees the EA Performance Team with 6 direct reports; therefore, demonstrable ability to manage a team (of employees and volunteers) is required to ensure appropriate resource management and delivery of desired results.

Candidates will require a strong understanding of elite athlete performance with proven results in the creation, development and leadership of a high performance program, along with experience in building a cohesive team culture, preferably within an Olympic/Paralympic sport. Proven business acumen and demonstrable business skills including planning, budgeting and change management are also required. Your ability to think strategically and capability to challenge the status quo based on sound, well developed ideas will be critical to your success.

An understanding of equestrian sports including the factors that drive international success would be an advantage.
