Sydney International Horse Trials Review Panel

Equestrian Australia has initiated a review into the incident at the Sydney International Horse Trials on Saturday 30 April which resulted in the death of Caitlyn Fischer. The review will be conducted by a panel comprising:

Will Enzinger is the Chair of the EA National Eventing Committee, a Level 3 Eventing Specialist Coach and a former member of the Equestrian Victoria Eventing Committee. He competes at FEI 4* level and has done so over the last 12 years. Will is also a member of the Scone Incident Review Panel.

Roger Kane (BSC Physics, MBA) is an experienced FEI 3/4 * Technical Delegate who has officiated in Australia and Overseas. Roger’s professional experience is in process improvement and root cause analysis. He is currently General Manager at Vicom and a director and past Chairman of Emerald Co-operative Society. 

Vivian Stephens (B Juris, LLB, LLM) is a legal academic specialising in corporate governance and corporate law. Viv also has experience in litigation and property law. A member of the Equestrian Victoria Eventing Committee and Equestrian Victoria Corporate Governance Sub-Committee, Viv has been actively involved in the sport as an event administrator for more than 25 years.

The Review Panel will:

  • Determine the sequence of events;  
  • Assess compliance with the FEI and EA Eventing Rules relevant to the incident;
  • Review the risk management controls in place at the event; and
  • Propose opportunities for improvement where identified. 

In completing this review, the panel will seek advice from relevant national and international experts.
