Community Officiating Essential Skills course

Sport Australia has launched a free, online course to help community Officials across the country deliver world-class, fun and inclusive sporting experiences for everyone.

The course has been informed by extensive research and contribution from sport, academics, officials, coaches and participants. It recognises the positive impacts officials can have in facilitating quality, safe, enjoyable, and inclusive environments for all participants.

The Community Officiating – Essential Skills Course helps empower officials to create positive sporting environments where participants, coaches, volunteers and communities can thrive.

This free online course includes 7 modules and takes around 3 hours to complete.

It has been designed so officials can learn at their own pace and complete modules anytime, anywhere, on any device. This course has replaced the General Principles Course. If you have completed the General Principles Course before the change you will not need to complete the new Essential Skills course.

Modern Officiaing Approach

The modern approach sees officials play a broader role in creating positive sporting environments. They do more than just apply the rules of the sport and move up through accreditation levels. The new approach involves ongoing personal and environmentally specific development offerings for officials, informed by their requirements. This enables them to continually improve their officiating skills for the benefit of participants, whether they are learning, participating socially or playing at a competitive level.
The new approach focuses on providing support and development for officials through education and training. We want to empower officials to create positive sporting environments where participants, coaches, volunteers and communities can thrive.
