Recognition of Current Competency

Non-qualified experienced coaches

If you have been coaching without formal qualifications you may be eligible for full or partial Skills Recognition based on Recognition of Current Competency. It is likely that this recognition will primarily be for the Horse Riding and Horse Management components of the coaching program. You may also be eligible for Skills Recognition through the Recognition of Prior Learning pathway.

Please refer to the Skills Recognition Policy – Information for Applicants document to understand the details of the pathway, the costs involved and how to apply to have these qualifications recognised by Equestrian Australia.

As part of this process it is likely you will need to undertake further training or assessment according to any identified gaps between your current competencies and the EA qualification. These may include attendance at an accelerated sign off by coach educators or SSTA's or undertaking some or all components of the training program.

You will also be required to meet the following components:

  • Be a current financial member of Equestrian Australia through one of the state branches
  • Hold a current first aid certificate
  • Attend an EA familiarisation session (compulsory for all international coaches)
  • Register as an EA coach and obtain appropriate coaches insurance either through EA or an independent broker. For information on EA’s coaches insurance please visit Gow Gates Insurance Brokers
